P.A.L.S. Meeting

5-21-04

Present: Heidi, Lisa, Jan, Denise and Mariana

Despite the cool temps and rain, we took a quick garden walk under the umbrella to see what was comin’ up at Denise’s. She has her vegetable garden all in already! And the pots and blooming flowers looked fantastic. (I still would like to try a few of her coneflowers)

Denise’s samples were varied and delicious. They all tended to be on the dark side, with her choice of Bell’s Expedition Stout being almost chewy it is so thick and complex. "Dorothy Goodbody’s" samples were unusual and interesting. The labels were intriguing as well.

We celebrated our children’s and our own accomplishments and happy events of late and coming up. We also laughed it up as we usually manage to do when we get together. I discovered a new way to get a good head (on a beer that is) is to use two bottles and pour into the glass from two sides! It works great – especially with the Stouts we had! As you know, I write these minutes from notes I take. There are two notes I don’t understand. Maybe someone remembers what they reference. One of them is "I like the smell of your ass" ??? Who said that??? The other note is "chiciquita". Anyone know what the hell that is?? I guess I need more description in my notation. I know I don’t have a good memory but I would think that would come back to me!

So we ended the evening talking plants and shopping for them and throwing out possibilities for future events. No date had been set for the next club that night but Heidi got it together since.

Next meeting – Saturday, June 26th , 7:00 ish

HOST – HEIDI

LAGER LINGO – "Maifest is a spring seasonal brewed in the style
of a Maibock (Mai is German for "May"). It is lighter and hoppier
than traditional bocks, tough similar in alcohol content, 6% to 7.5% by
volume.

Pilseners (or pilsners) have a light, crisp, hop-spicy mouthfeel
and a fragrant, mildly perfumy aroma. First brewed in 1842
in Pilsen, in what is now the Czech Republic, pilsener is the world’s
most popular beer style.
