P.A.S. Meeting

9-3-04

Present: Denise, Lisa, Heidi, Rhonda (member-in situ), Joan and me.

This was not the usual beer club.  Since Rhonda was in town, it seemed natural to have a few “guests” to beer club.  Well, by the time it was Friday night, there were 13 of us high school “chicks” who’ve known each other for 30+ years!  Some of us haven’t seen each other in 20 years.  Guests included Becky, Chris, Julie (from Three Lakes), Susie, Jill, Mary (from Prairie Du Sac) and Carrie (from Oregon).  It sure was a PARTY because none of us have changed…on the inside.   We also welcomed the company of Sandy (a previous beer club guest) and Jessie (Denise’s daughter, also a previous beer club guest), and Bobbie (Carrie’s husband).  Beer club members tasted some interesting samples like a Rauch beer (smoked beer) which was VERY smoky tasting and a black beer import from Brazil.  We also had a blackberry ale and Gray’s special edition I.P.A.  A few of the guests were interested to try the beers and had comments to add as well.  We were even able to sway a very stable MGD drinker to try some different brew.  Lisa also brought our homemade beer, which consisted of the Hazelnut Brown Ale and Tits up in the Mud Pale Ale.  She also brought the Mead that she and Rick had made.  The homemade beer was also quite awesome.  The Pale Ale had a little Weis taste to it, and the Hazelnut was as good as the first time.  I personally did not taste the Mead but I heard that it was sort of like a wine.

We drank and munched and laughed and talked and reminisced through the night.  We were cozily situated in my backyard under the canopy and the green and gold lights.  The night started foggy but ended clear (sky wise that is).  The company was so great and it will be a night I will not forget.  I’m pretty sure the rest of the party animals had a good time as well.  We should make this gathering an annual event.  Julie proposed a beer club road trip.  She invited us to come to Three Lakes for a meeting.  We will have to put that on the calendar – sounds like a good time.

Hopefully there will be some pictures to put on the web of the Labor Day weekend P.A.L.S. meeting.  Watch for them in the future.

The next event we participated in was the annual Septembeerfest on September 17th.  Denise and Jan were unable to join us at the fest but the rest of us found the samples to be of great number as were the amount of attendees.  We agreed that they probably sold a few too many tickets, but within 90 minutes of starting, we found it fairly easy to get a sample and to get around.  The food however was in short supply.  We will have to see for next year how many tickets they plan to sell.  Perhaps they got a little too greedy this year.  Once again, good company and conversation rounded out the evening at Potter’s Field.  And congratulations to Bruce (from Chess Club) for winning one of the raffle prizes – it included a great pullover nylon jacket and a fair amount of GOOD beer!

Next meeting:  October 16, Saturday, 7:30pm.

HOST – Jan

Respectfully submitted,
Mariana

Looking forward to seeing you all!!!
