P.A.L.S. MINUTES
2-9-02
Present: Heidi, Joan, Lisa, Mariana, and Denise
It wasnt too long since last meeting, but this date worked best for all (except Jan, who had a last minute family commitment). Lindsey, Joans daughter, joined us for part of the meeting and helped keep our rating numbers "6". Though she is AMATEUR, she did a good job, and we glommed on to her contribution of youth, freshness, and ample supply of estrogen. [Warning to future youthful visitors you may not leave feeling as good as the rest of us more mature females]. Joan also brought a new hair color we estimated it to be Leinenkugel Red. Heres an idea that came from the club "beer color for hair"! Pilsner for the blonde in ya, amber for a little depth, red for daring, nut brown for the brunette, and porter or stout for the dark side of ya. Million dollar idea! New brewery souvenir shop item!
We began the meeting with a salute to 5 years! We had a "shot" of beer barley wine ale that was aged for over a year. It was brewed in 2000 as a millennium special by Lakefront Brewery and was called BEERLINE. The label pictures a train, which seemed appropriate with our upcoming adventure. We went on to sample great beers, one of which was particularly well received, Java Stout brewed by Belles Brewery. Our amateur wasnt really ready for that depth of flavor, but we know she will get there. We again discussed beer club tours as something that might be of interest to outsiders. That is, they could see us participating in a meeting and observe our procedures. It was suggested that we could be mentors for the inexperienced and those lacking beer knowledge. Just a thought. As occasionally happens, we found ourselves in the "toiletzone", luckily it was after our youthful member left. The young are just not ready for certain topics. We ended up raiding Denises homemade soap supply - after Heidi discovered Syd had no food (poor kitty). A great time was had by all, with lots of laughs. We have the plan in place for the train trip to Chicago (1:00pm departure) on Friday, March 1st. Well hit the evening tasting session at the Real Ale Fest and after a good nights sleep at the hotel, head back home on Saturday. It will be a GREAT way to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.
Lisa will drive us to the station with Ryan (hopefully) accompanying us to drive the van back to Lisas. Be ready by 11:45. We must have photo ID and arrive nearest to one hour prior to departure as possible. The train will depart Milwaukee at 1:00pm and while we will have tickets, the seats are not reserved. We will arrive in Chicago about 2:30 and will make our way to the hotel about 3 miles from the station. We booked a room with 2 queen beds at the Days Inn Gold Coast on Clark St., approximately 2 miles from the Goose Island Brewery where the Fest is being held, on that same street. After we get settled, we can make our way to the Fest, which begins at 5:00 (there is a bus that goes right past the hotel and down the street to the Fest). We have tickets for the Fest on order. Then we will FEST! We will receive a souvenir glass and 5 tickets for beer samples (dont panic, more can be purchased at $1.00 each.
Check out at the hotel on Saturday is at 12:00pm. The train departs Union Station at 1:00pm. Well head back at that time. Arrival in Milwaukee is at 2:30pm. How we all get home is still to be determined any volunteers for pickup?
Get ready for an awesome weekend, PALS!
Respectfully submitted,
Mariana
