P.A.L.S. MEETING
JULY 27, 2000
Members present: Joan, Jan, Lisa, Denise, and Mariana
Denises garden patio was bountifully prepared aesthetically as well as the drink. The fire was ready to go and we all had a jolly good time. Denise started us off with a Variety Pack by Tommyknocker brewery. The bottle labels peaked our interest (they were artistic and cleverly named), but not all of them tickled our fancy. We all had a few drinks of each type in the sixpack, however we did not rate them. THEN we began beer club and rating. In between we found our way over to Denises garden and helped ourselves to her abundant raspberry crop. The berries are huge and juicy. It was difficult to stay on track with all the distractions and catching up we had to do. The fire was warm, the beer quite good, and the company the best. We stayed late, savoring every moment of togetherness, and Denises picks.
Joan brought us good news about sister Lynns successful heart transplant. The luck of the Irish was with the ONeills on Friday the 13th. We are so grateful it went well, and hope for a speedy recovery.
Jan brought some extra credit, a publication titled Somethings Brewin, which accompanies beer delivered to "Beer Across America" members. This issue highlighted 2 microbreweries, Abita and Golden Pacific Brewing. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of "Beer Across America", you can call 1-800-854-2337, or order online at www.beeramerica.com. You receive 2 sixpacks every month of microbrewery beers that have been previously tested and approved.
Lisa also brought extra credit in the form of several newspapers titled, Great Lakes Brewing News. Unfortunately, they are from Feb./March of this year. The paper gives the low-down on midwestern microbreweries and brewpubs. Some of the writers are pretty clever. Other various events are listed as well as advertisements for beers.
Although Heidi wasnt present, she also sent along extra credit. There were recipes (using Guinness) and a magazine titled, Malt Advocate that provides info on beer and whiskey malts. In addition, she has a map that lists locations and descriptions of the "great tastes" of Wisconsin. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO OUR LEARNING PROCESS!
Next meeting Friday, August 16th, Heidi wants to start at 6:30pm
HOST HEIDI Cant wait to see you all again! |
