FIELD TRIP

JUNE 23, 2001

Members present: Heidi, Denise, Jan, Rhonda, Mariana

For our 6th field trip to date, we decided to revisit our first field trip stop, LAKEFRONT BREWERY, at their new location.  The new brewery is in a much larger and attractive building, a prettier location (right on the river), and has 2 bars at which to drink.  Unfortunately, we weren’t quite ready to leave when they wanted us to leave.  We purchased nice glasses from which to sample, and received wooden tokens for drinking (that was different from the original tour, when we all had access to the tap).  Pours were generous though, no complaint there.  The room we began drinking in was a large hall with a large bar at one end.  The room was being set up for a wedding.  The table centerpieces were six packs with empty beer bottles containing flowers.  I thought it seemed a nice place for a reception (albeit a small one).  The tour was informative, as always, and our guide was a jolly fellow who reminded me at times of “Mayor”.  The tour ended at the second bar (downstairs).  Here is where the old “Bernie Brewer” slide is kept.  No announcements were made about using it (DANG!).  We used up our tokens, took pictures, and balked at the last call.  All in all, we sampled the Eastside Dark, Riverwest Stein, Six Points Lager (a tasty brew not sampled before), Belgian White, and Fuel Café – did I miss any?  After we filled our glasses and were shown the door, we wandered outside to the riverfront, where we found a bench to sit on and enjoy the view.  We even got to see the actual wedding ceremony take place, there on the riverfront!

We next ventured to “Jessica’s (Bundalo) place”, an older apartment building near downtown.  We visited with Jessie, brother Zach (who recently moved in), and a friend of theirs.  We enjoyed their fabulous view of Water Street from their outside balcony.  It felt just like the old days of college.

On to our next stop – The Nomad.  Here we discovered a meager corner tavern on Brady Street, that had some awesome outside seating, AND we drank their signature beer, brewed for them by LAKEFRONT.  It was a flavorful red we all enjoyed.

It was getting on to dinner hour so we dined at Water Street Brewery and enjoyed yet another microbrew.  The food was pretty tasty as well.

Not feeling quite ready to go home, we stopped at the local “hole” Moran’s, and were pretty much unable to finish our beers.  Homeward bound – the end of a great field trip.

Next meeting – July 27th, 7:00pm

HOST – DENISE

Respectfully submitted,

Mariana
