P.A.L.S. Meeting
January 27, 2001

"In the New Year,
     may your right hand
always be stretched out
     in friendship,
but never in want." -Irish toast

All members were present for this first-of-the-year meeting, including our special "in situ member", Rhonda. Undoubtedly, the entire block around Heidi s house was wondering what was happening inside her 4 walls. The sound of our collective laughter was deafening. (Any wonder why Wally vacates the premises?) We dove right into our purpose and the samples were quite well received. Several of us look forward to more of the fabulously drinkable Minnesota SUMMIT Great Northern Porter (hint-hint). Also interesting were the imports purchased at the Balkanian New Star (good restaurant). We wound down the evening with a desert beer and Happy Birthday salute to Rhonda, which was a surprise to her. Did we "blow" you away, Rhonda? (Where did I hear that "blow" word before, it seems it came up frequently that night). Heidi had threatened early on (as the decibel level rose beyond measure) that we were all going home by 10:30, and I was getting the 10:20 boot (was it something I said?), but we minded our manners and left after we had completed the rating, and as we began to fade.

"Laughter is the joyous universal evergreen of life!!!"
           -Abraham Lincoln

(From the Idiot s Guide to Beer)
Terms of Enbeerment: The Standard Reference Method (SRM) uses light analysis to measure the exact color of beer and then assigns a number to each color. Light beers have a low SRM number; dark beers have a higher SRM number. For example, Budweiser (American Pilsner) has an SRM of 3; Bass (English Pale Ale) has an SRM of 6-12; Newcastle (English Brown) has an SRM of 25; and Guinness (Stout) has an SRM of 40+.

Next meeting: February 24, 2001, 7:30pm.

*We will begin the meeting with "beer business", i.e., news and ideas, dates of next meetings.
*Wear your pajamas.

HOST: LISA

March meeting has been set for Friday, 3-16-01, at O Neil s. (Can we expect Irish swill?) Mark your calendars! Prepare for the scheduling of the April field trip. Any ideas??

Joan had suggested going to the bar (Moran s) for beer club. We ended up going there the following Friday night. Unfortunately, not all members were able to attend.

Respectfully submitted,
Mariana
