A Day in Nagano prefecture

Today we visit several intersting areas in the Nagano prefecture. This page shows pictures taken in the town of Kakeyu-onsen in which our ryokan was located.

We could buy these melons for 3000 yen (each). That's $30 at the current exchange rate. Some melons sold for as much as 8000 yen each.

It is the season for pine mushrooms. These were available at 2300 yen for 100 grams. (That's about $50 per pound)

Takiko is buying some mushrooms to take home. The black ones by her hand are over 100 years old. She bought some of those and gave some to Yoshiko to take home.

Yoshiko is checking out the fountain and Jizo at the town's temple, Monjudo.

Here she is with another Jizo.

The lady in the kimono preparing tea at the temple is the daughter of the owners of the Ryokan in which we stayed.
