Ninteenth day in Japan

A Trip to the Mountains - Sawai Ome-city

Today we went to the mountains to visit the Ozawa sake brewery, an art museum featuring works by Gyokudo Kawai, and to do some hiking. It was a two hour trip by train (4 trains actually) to get there. We left at 9 am and returned home at 5:30 pm.

Three sisters on the train to the mountain.

After a visit to the sake company and some sake tasting we enjoyed lunch by the riverside. Naturally we had sake to accompany our lunch of rice balls, pickles, senbei (rice crackers) and fruit.

After lunch we crossed the river by a suspension bridge to visit a small temple, Kanzanji. I am ringing the temple bell to alert the temple gods that we are there.

A view of the river and suspension bridge from the temple.

We took a hike along the river to the art museum about one hour away.

Yoshiko is standing by the Zen garden at the art museum.

In the river the kayakers were practicing for river races.

This kayaker is going all out.
