Ninth day in Japan

A Day in Nagano prefecture

There are many temples and shrines nestled in the hills of Nagano Prefecture. It is like a sister region to the shrines and temples of the Kamakura area. We visited several of them and some art museums as well

It is rice harvest time in Japan. Here the rice is drying on racks in a rice field.

Yoshiko and Takiko outside one of the art museums we visited. The tree leaves have turned red.

This pumpkin is called Nihon Kabocha

Steve is standing by a statue of Amigasa, a famous wondering monk. (The one who followed the cows.)

This three tier pagoda is a national treasure located at the Zenzanji Temple.

There are no nails or other fasteners used in the construction. It is like a Chinese puzzle.
