In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic the Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is....(celebrating Halloween this week)
Sengir Bats
Homelands Common
1BB Summon Bats
1/2 Flying. Whenever a creature is put into the graveyard the same turn Sengir Bats damaged it, put a +1/+1 counter on Sengir Bats.
A brief rundown of the card:
Sengir Bats aren't the best cheap black flyer around unless you help them out a little bit. A Fledgling Djinn or Skulking Ghost will tend to do more damage early in a game, but Sengir Bats can inflate larger than Baron Sengir with some assistance from any of the following:
- Fire Whip
True, the bats could only kill X/1 creatures with Fire Whip by themselves, but think of all the creatures/artifacts you could use to polish off a creature the Fire Whipped Sengir Bats has damaged (who cares if they send a creature to the graveyard---they just have to damage it!) Royal Assassin and Icy Manipulator come to mind---how about Lightning Bolts and Prodigal Sorcerers? Even old standbys like Terror work great with a Fire Whipped Sengir Bats. Right before the end of your opponents turn (or before combat if they attack with the victim creature) shoot the creature with the bats. Your opponent may wonder why you're doing a single point of damage to his 0/2 Icatian Moneychanger, until you Terror the Moneychanger after you shoot it!
- Arena+Regeneration/Thrull Retainer...
Use Arena to have your bats deal their power in damage to an opponents creature. Your bats are very frail until they pull this stunt off a few times. Use whatever regeneration method you feel would best suit your deck. Broken Fall is one of my favorites. Remember, Arena can't be countered.
- Triangle of War
Triangle of War is a far cry from Arena, but is a great card in type 2 play. Yes, yes, the Triangle is cheaper to use than Arena...but it's only a one shot use. Maybe try adding cards to allow you to reuse the Triangle...it won't take many uses to make your bats unstoppable.
- Bad Moon
Just a reminder. 1BB for a 2/3 flyer (with a bonus power) is really really good.
