Remember to hit reload every day or else the new card may not load!
Not all of the old Card of the Day files are working right now. All of the old files should be running soon. About 80-95% are working now. Sorry for the delays getting new cards done too. Things are getting back to normal rather well.
In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Barreling Attack
Mirage Rare
2RR Instant
"Target creature gains trample until end of turn. That creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each creature blocking it."
A brief rundown of the card:
Hmmm, trample and improved rampage at the speed of an instant. I first thought Barreling Attack was a little pricey--then I played with it. That 4 mana you pay should kill an extra creature or two and deal some hefty damage to an opponent if timed correctly. Barreling Attack can also be a preventative card--maybe your opponent was going to gang block your creature, and you don't want that! Barreling Attack might just force an opponent to reconsider their blocking. Here are some of the fun uses I've found for a good surprise Barreling Attack:
- Lure
Since every one of your opponent's creatures is going to blocking your Lured attacker anyway, use Barreling Attack to cripple your opponent. Kill multiple blockers or deal extra damage with all that trample damage, the choice is yours.
- Elvish Bard
This neat creature has Lure built in! All you'll need now are some enemy creatures to block your Elvish Bard, and an extra Barreling Attack. 4 creatures blocking a barreling bard creates a 6/8 trampling elf. Not bad at all.
- Varchild's War-Riders
If you were concerned your opponent wouldn't be using creatures, force them to have many with the popular war-riders. All so you can just knock them down with your barreling Dark Maze or wasp token. I guess some things don't "barrel" all that well...but it's sure silly to think of an angry, charging Spore Flower. Tee hee. Clear the way, incoming fungi!
- Aerathi Berzeker/Horrible Hordes...
Once your opponent finally gathers up the resources to kill one of your rampaging nasties, surprise them with "double rampage" at the last second. Maybe I'll build a Teeka's Dragon/Chaosphere/Lure concept deck after all!
- Fork
Double your pleasure with Fork! Trample and +2/+2 for each blocker is way too cool for even 2 cards and 6 mana.
- Scaled Wurm
There are many big non-tramplers built for Barreling Attack, but this guy is one of the better ones I feel. An opponent won't hesitate to throw 3 creatures against a Scaled Wurm---expectng to only loose say, 2 of those creatures. Then the mighty wurm rolls itself up into a big scaly ball, and capapults itslef into the enemy ranks as a 10/9 trampler. POW!
