"T: Untap target tapped land an opponent controls to add one mana of any type that land produces to your mana pool."
A brief rundown of the card:
You could almost say Benthic Explorers is like a big, slow Llanowar Elves. Blue doesn't have many ways of generating extra mana, this is one of blue's all around best. 2/4 for 4 mana isn't too shabby. The ability to untap opponent's lands is marginal. Extra mana is always a good thing. You get all three of those plus more with Benthic Explorers. I've seen these things show up in so many different decks, I couldn't name them all. Here are some of the uses for the ever-so versatile Benthic Explorers that I've witnessed:
- Psychic Venom
It has always been easy to tap a land enchanted with Psychic Venom. Untapping an opponent's land (just so you can tap it again!) isn't quite as easy usually. Benthic Explorers is one of the best means of consistantly untapping an opponent's land.
- Lord of Atlantis
Since Benthic Explorers is a Merfolk, this combo gives you a 3/5 islandwalker. That is something to write home about.
- Vodalian War Machine
Did I mention the explorers were summon Merfolk?
- Iceberg
I've personally used the mana I've "stolen" from an opponent to juice up a big Iceberg. What I did with all of that extra mana is a whole other story (one word, Braingeyser).
