Remember to hit reload every day or else the new card may not load!
Not all of the old Card of the Day files are working right now. All of the old files should be running soon. About 80-95% are working now. Sorry for the delays getting new cards done too. Things are getting back to normal rather well.
In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Rathi Dragon
Tempest Rare
2RR Summon Dragon
5/5
Flying
"When Rathi Dragon comes into play, sacrifice two mountains or sacrifice Rathi Dragon."
A brief rundown of the card:
Ohhh this is a nasty card. Anything that flies and can't be bolted is good enough, let alone 5/5 flying for 4 mana. Sure, you're going to loose a few mountains...boo hoo. You're opponent is going to probably loose quite a few life in exchange. Out of all the huge risky creatures, Rathi Dragon is one of the most stable I feel. The mountain sacrifice is not part of it's casting cost too---Rathi gets countered, you don't loose the mountains! Two mountains isn't anything compared to the mighty Lord of Tresserhorn's requirements I feel (nothing against the lord mind you). Here are a few cards I've used to make get the most out of Rathi Dragon (and make that 2 mountain thing negligible):
- Dense Foilage/Mystic Veil...
Pick and choose your favorite means of keeping an opponent from targeting your lovely dragon with such foul spells as Spirit Link or Terror. Since you're going to be paying a little more than mana to get this beast into play, you might as well make it a "safe" move.
- Lodestone Bauble/Harvest Wurm
Both of these fine cards allow you to get land from your graveyard to somewhere more useful like the top of your library or in your hand. Even though the loss of land to summon this dragon isn't normally too bad, if you face a land destruction deck you may have a problem later in a duel without some help from cards like these.
- Veteran Explorer/Rampant Growth/Untamed Wilds...
These and many more fine spells help you get tons of land into play quickly. With just a few of these, you could be even with your opponent in land after you cast Rathi Dragon.
- Fervor/Eternal Warrior...
If any creature needed to not have summoning sickness or not tap to attack, this is a good example.
- Battle Frenzy/Gauntlets of Might
Add insult to injury with these cards as you pump up you red creatures. A timely Battle Frenzy is never expected.
- Undergrowth
Undergrowth is a Fog plus. It costs the same as Fog and works the same as Fog, but if you pay an additional 2R while casting Undergrowth, all red creatures deal damage as normal! Imagine...your opponent blocking your Rathi Dragon with a Serra Angel and Mesa Pegasus. Suddenly, their creatures deal no damage and you kill both blockers. Tee hee.
- Zirilan of the Claw
Rathi Dragon is a prime candidate for Zirilan of the Claw. I'd sacrifice two lands to deal 5 damage to my opponent quite often (Fireblast only deals 4).
