Remember to hit reload every day or else the new card may not load!
Not all of the old Card of the Day files are working right now. All of the old files should be running soon. About 80-95% are working now. Sorry for the delays getting new cards done too. Things are getting back to normal rather well.
In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Whip Vine
Alliances Common
2G Summon Wall
1/4
"Can block creatures with flying.
You may choose not to untap Whip Vine during your untap phase.
T: Tap target creature with flying blocked by Whip Vine. That creature does not untap during its controller's untap phase as long as Whip Vine remains tapped."
A brief rundown of the card:
Green might be short on quality flyers overall, but green sure has the best ways of knocking out enemy flyers. Along with Hurricane, Tropical Storm, Katabatic Winds and many others, Whip Vine is among the best anti-flyer cards for what you pay. Not only do you get a so-so blocker that can't be bolted, Whip Vine will also screw with your opponent's flyers in an odd way...it can keep them tapped. Hmmm, how can that be handy you ask? Read on:
- Royal Assassin/Tetsuo Umezawa
A tapped creature is a dead creature when Royal Assassin Tetsuo Umezawa is in town. Tetsuo Umezawa roughly translated means "You loose".
- Giant Oyster
Giant Oyster is one of the few Homelands cards that ever saw some serious tournament action for a little while. It's a great means of killing creatures, but it is a little slow. If you have the Giant Oyster busy digesting a creature when an opponent's flyer attacks, use a Whip Vine to keep the next meal tapped until the Giant Oyster has room in its stomach for more.
- Total War
Heee heee hee. Total War reads "Whenever any player declares an attack, destroy all untapped non-wall creatures that player controls that don't attack". Whip Vine is a wall conviently. It will avoid destruction while the poor flyer it has a grasp of dies when it can't attack becasuse it's tapped.
- Jump/Wind Dancer/Updraft...
Blue has tons of ways of giving a creature flying very cheaply. If your opponent isn't attacking with flyers, make their creature flyers! Wind Dancer is better for long term use, but Jump and Updraft are sure to catch people off gaurd!
