The Card of the Day is...

Tidal Flats

Fallen Empires Common
U Enchantment

"UU: All your creatures that are blocking any non-flying creatures gain first strike until end of turn. The attacking player may pay 1 for each attacking creature to prevent Tidal Flats from giving that creature's blockers first strike."

I always liked the whole concept of Fallen Empires, yet most people don't care for many of the cards or how goofy most of them were. Tidal Flats sure is goofy--one of the most verbose commons around for sure. In short, all of your creatures blocking non-flyers get first strike for UU. Your opponent can pay one generic each to remove thusly given first strike from each creature they wish. Why bother you ask? Tidal Flats is oddly one of (or the most) cost-effective means of giving out first strike to many creatures. Advance Guard is rather effective at this task too, yet if you have more than 2 creatures in play, Tidal Flats is cheaper to use. True, this first strike is only good when blocking, but that's not such a bad thing. Blue has only three creatures that have first strike built in--Vodalian Knights, Narwhal, and Illusionary Wall. A first striking army of blue critters may catch opponents off guard. There are a few combos and ideas that can work alright with Tidal Flats if you're feeling a little creative/brave. Here are some to chew on:
