In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new Magic: The Gathering card every single day.

The Card of the Day is...

Lure of Prey

Mirage Rare
2GG Instant

"Play only if an opponent successfully cast a summon spell this turn.
Put a green summon card from your hand into play as though it were just played."

Rumor has it Lure of Prey sucks. It kinda does in my opinion. Not only is it unreliable because not everybody uses creatures (your opponent must play a creature for you even to be able to cast Lure of Prey), but Lure of Prey's ability to bring a creature into play at the speed of an instant can be done much more effectively with Winding Canyons or Flash. Sure, Lure of Prey allows you to avoid paying the casting cost of any creature in lieu for 2GG. Sadly, you don't see many green creatures in serious tournament decks that cost more than 2GG anyway--making Lure of Prey a potential waste of a card. I'm not saying Lure of Prey is usless, it's just not a "power" card at all---yet. There are plenty of fine green creatures I'd like to have the effective casting cost cut down to 2GG, as well as a few times summoning a creature at the speed of an instant...even at the hefty cost of using a one-shot expensive card to do it. Lure of Prey is a fun card to use, give it a try. Every once in a while it can be a pivotal spell in a game, especially if you try to help it along with spells like these:
